Watching: This Woman Is Dangerous (1952) This wasn’t terrible as everyone said.

I’ve admired Joan Crawford since I was a kid. The first movie I had seen was “Sadie McKee 1934”. After that I’ve become curious about who is Joan Crawford. I would watch TCM faithfully. Hoping that one of her films would come on. Or, when she was the network’s star of the month.

The DVD’s & Blu-ray craze began. They would slowly release her films. Some that I have seen. Some that I didn’t. The perks were all the extra features. A few had different biographies. All of them stated that she hated the film. So, did the public. This film is what made her leave Warner Brothers right after the release..

Joan Crawford & David Brian

So… I had to watch this one for myself.

Here we go!

Joan Crawford plays Beth Austin the ring leader in a gang. As well as, the girlfriend of Matt Jackson. Played by David Brian.. He played a ton of these gangster roles. He was just another killer in this one. Anyway, they rob a casino by impersonation cops. Meanwhile, she is having tons of eye trouble. She’s taking these trips to the eye doctor and Matt is panicking. She tells him that her eyesight is failing and needs to travel to a hospital in Indiana to have this operation. She tells him to lay low. He’s too damn upset that she’s leaving for a bit. Eventually, he promises that he will.

Joan Crawford & Dennis Morgan

She gets to Indiana at meets surgeon Ben Halleck. Played by Dennis Morgan. He performs the operation. Boom!! They develop feelings for another. Somehow, Matt’s insecurities are in full effect. He gets really suspicious of her recovery period. Which was quite long. He hires a private investigator to spy on them. Beth is aware of this and cools things off with Dr. Halleck. However, Matt is ready to come for him. Also, the FBI has been on their asses for quite sometime. Matt gets to the hospital. The shooting scene begins. Matt begins shooting. He gets popped by the FBI. Beth ends up in prison. Her and Dr. Halleck will live happily ever after. Once, she’s released from prison.

I thought this was a good film. I’ll definitely watch it again. I do see where the film staggers to dull melodrama. I’ve watched and read that. She was offered this film. Just so she can decline. Which will lead to her suspension from the studio. I don’t know much about David Brian. Other than the films that he’s done with Crawford. Flamingo Road in 1949 and The Damned Don’t Cry in 1950. I’ve seen Dennis Morgan play Peter Kingsmill in 1942. To the studios surprise the stars accepted the role. Immediately after Joan Crawford instructed her agents to get her out of her Warner Brothers contract.

The New York Times critic called the film “Junk” Otis Guernsey Jr. of The New York Herald Tribune called it a long, windy tiresome story. Overall, you need to see for yourself. Like I said it wasn’t a bad movie.
